This oversized vase holds removable test tubes which can hold and display single stem flowers. It can be made of a variety of materials, including resin such as the 3-form Chroma shown at right. The resin connects with a vertical threaded rod and secures with caps. A number of vases can be created in varying heights and with differing numbers of joined cylindrical columns to create a dramatic effect in a room.

monarchy floor and wall system

Inspired by the furniture industry’s infamous butterfly joint, this wall and floor system can be configured in various layouts, colors, and scales to fit your room needs. Shown here on the upper left and in a room, the system can be fabricated from eco-friendly linoleum (such as Marmoleum which is available in huge sheets). If you want a more materials-inspired neutral palette as a backdrop for your mid-century modern treasures, the system can be constructed out of plywood and sheet steel as seen in the upper right.

A wine rack that pays homage to the Shaker chair rail. A single peg and two points of contact on the leaning rail create the triangle to which this rack owes its solid structure. Using gravity to its best advantage, the rail slips over the peg and tightens at an angle as it finds a comfortable spot to lean between the wall and the floor; in the same way, necks of wine bottles are gripped in the holes for storage. Display as a singular object to hold a case of wine, or use several side by side to store your entire collecion. Upright rail is precision CNC cut 1-1/2" hardwood or plywood. Peg is 1-1/4" DIA hardwood dowel with dowel screw mount.

A simple twist...

A simple twist is a modular storage system. It is a wall mounted cubby, console table, stand alone bookcase or any other configuration you see fit. Not a wacky piece of art furniture, it is designed to be a modern, conservative collection of cubes, with an understated twist that garners attention and curiosity upon closer inspection. The box in question is rotated on three axes, perfectly intersecting the adjacent, inline cubes. Computer modeled and cut on a CNC router, it fits flawlessly making a strong joint along the intersecting portions. The twisted box actually penetrates the straight cubes on both sides. It can be customized and manufactured quickly and easily from any sheet stock material Colors, finishes and edge styles can all directed by the customer. An aluminum stand or wall mounted French cleats are available along with any number of additional boxes to complete the desired arrangement. A simpler, cheaper version is available with a single axis rotation. Further prototypes in development are children’s versions and outdoor planter boxes. The example shown here is done in walnut veneer, with a water based clear coat.

hook up. hangers.

Does your little black dress always fall off the hanger and into the dirty laundry bin? Do you forget that you own those scarves that are crumpled in the back of your dresser drawer? These whimsical hangers can’t promise to solve all of your life hang ups, but they quickly diffuse garment troubles. They hook on a peg Shaker-style and nest on cut sheets to maximize the material; they can be made of wood but are most festive when cut out of translucent 3/4” 3-form eco-resin or a similar material. Colors can be chosen to coordinate with your threads or to organize your apparel by category, and, if you wish, the hangers can be created with a hook on top to go into your closet. Of course, if these hangers do the trick for my fashion staples but not for yours, we can design some that work for the stubborn items in YOUR wardrobe.

Domestic Workstation

By combining laser cut and bent sheet metal with CNCed wood this desk/table addresses technology in the home in a simple and honest way. The rear wire tray can hold a power strip and contain the tangle of cables associated with many of today’s gadgets. It is attached to the desk with machine screws and threaded inserts in the back edge of the tabletop. The front shelf simply slides into the CNCed slots in the plywood worksurface, creating storage underneath as well as a flush surface for mousing. The legs could be done in hardwood or veneered plywood and after machining come together with the same screws and inserts creating a solid base for the workstation.

Muddy Coat Rack

Many things were thought about in the design process of this object, function, form, style, what a home is?
The visual style of this object gets negated when it serves its most functional purpose. The object becomes most visible when, perhaps there is know one around to notice.

The simple lines display curves that are recognizable and at the same time completely abstract. Its possible that modern style is a cacophony of technology and creativity being merged in a way that can come out both muddy and confusing as per a style. Muddy Coat Rack tries to illustrate that!

There are set dimensions where joints of the racks structure come together. Other than those points the rack can be completely and constantly redesigned. If you had enough silhouettes or patterns it would lessen the chance of any two people having the same design. The rack itself is held together by exact tolerances and a series of set screws which are milled and tapped into the plastic which would easily hold a coarse machine Alan head set screw. No Glue!. Polyethylene can be laser-cut, water-jet or CNC milled. Being made from polyethylene affords being able to choose high recycled material content. As well as, no finish no stain paint, or sealant.

This product could last forever or turn into something else, literally!

Polyethylene 1/4, 1/2, 5/8 D 76inx35inx35in

Your choice of book matched and sequenced veneer covers 1 ¼” plywood and creates the structure for the shelves. The ¾” shelves can be edited as the user sees fit, choosing finish and placement. Overall width, height and depth can be adapted to each customer’s unique space. Metal “T” track insert and mounting hardware supports shelves and allows side to side positioning Different storage solutions can be achieved by adding different components (shelf, hanging rod, etc.) accommodating a range of goods from books and media to coats and shoes.

CoatStack was developed to utilize CNC lathing and reclaimed materials. Sections are machined from simple lathe patterns using locally available new materials or readily available scrap (including construction lumber, plastics, and metals). To optimize the material usage, multiple sections lengths are available.
The hanging brackets are laser cut sheet metal and can be positioned at various heights, angles and degrees. The brackets allow garments to be hung directly or on a hanger.
Other modules including a pocket item tray (shown) or decorative lathed sections can be formed and added. Customization is based on available material, additional modules, and hanger configurations.
