LEAN

Design Image:
Lean.gif

A wine rack that pays homage to the Shaker chair rail. A single peg and two points of contact on the leaning rail create the triangle to which this rack owes its solid structure. Using gravity to its best advantage, the rail slips over the peg and tightens at an angle as it finds a comfortable spot to lean between the wall and the floor; in the same way, necks of wine bottles are gripped in the holes for storage. Display as a singular object to hold a case of wine, or use several side by side to store your entire collecion. Upright rail is precision CNC cut 1-1/2" hardwood or plywood. Peg is 1-1/4" DIA hardwood dowel with dowel screw mount.

A simple twist...

in
Design Image:
simple_twist.jpg

A simple twist is a modular storage system. It is a wall mounted cubby, console table, stand alone bookcase or any other configuration you see fit. Not a wacky piece of art furniture, it is designed to be a modern, conservative collection of cubes, with an understated twist that garners attention and curiosity upon closer inspection. The box in question is rotated on three axes, perfectly intersecting the adjacent, inline cubes. Computer modeled and cut on a CNC router, it fits flawlessly making a strong joint along the intersecting portions. The twisted box actually penetrates the straight cubes on both sides. It can be customized and manufactured quickly and easily from any sheet stock material Colors, finishes and edge styles can all directed by the customer. An aluminum stand or wall mounted French cleats are available along with any number of additional boxes to complete the desired arrangement. A simpler, cheaper version is available with a single axis rotation. Further prototypes in development are children’s versions and outdoor planter boxes. The example shown here is done in walnut veneer, with a water based clear coat.

Shift Storage

Your choice of book matched and sequenced veneer covers 1 ¼” plywood and creates the structure for the shelves. The ¾” shelves can be edited as the user sees fit, choosing finish and placement. Overall width, height and depth can be adapted to each customer’s unique space. Metal “T” track insert and mounting hardware supports shelves and allows side to side positioning Different storage solutions can be achieved by adding different components (shelf, hanging rod, etc.) accommodating a range of goods from books and media to coats and shoes.

The Epoc magazine rack combines functionality and simplicity. Made from sustainably farmed NZ Pine plywood it ships flat and the two sides slot together to form the "x" configuration. Magazines can be placed in the slots across the rack or length ways depending on your preference. The Epoc magazine rack was designed by a group of Otago Polytechnic students as part of a class project. One of these students is about to start a business selling them, including via www.vanilladesignstore.com. The price is expected to be around $USD60.
